Inspiring Curiosity Through STEM: Prep Pupils Shine at Regional LEGO Robotics Competition
Innovation, teamwork and creativity were on full display as Prep pupils took part in the regional stage of a global robotics competition.
Competing against schools from across the region, pupils designed, built and programmed their own LEGO robots to complete a series of complex challenges within a strict time limit. The fast-paced environment required resilience, problem-solving and calm thinking under pressure, as teams navigated mission boards and adapted strategies in real time.

Beyond robotics, pupils also tackled a real-world innovation challenge linked to archaeology. Working collaboratively, teams developed imaginative solutions, including a self-propelled rover capable of scanning the ground for hidden artefacts and an app concept designed to photograph, catalogue and analyse discoveries using 3D scanning technology.
Throughout the competition, pupils demonstrated exceptional collaboration and communication skills, confidently presenting their ideas to judges and embracing the event’s core values of teamwork, discovery and innovation. Their efforts were rewarded with multiple accolades, including recognition for both innovation and teamwork.
Experiences like this highlight the power of STEM education at Hatherop Castle, where curiosity and creativity combine to build future-ready skills and confident young problem-solvers.
