Hatherop Pupils Shine at National Athletics Finals

The athletics season concluded in spectacular style at the prestigious National Prep Schools Athletics Championships, held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham – a venue steeped in sporting history.

Representing the Mercia region, two of our senior pupils had the honour of competing among the best young athletes from across the country. Qualifying through regional trials held at Stourport Athletics Club, both girls earned their place through sheer determination and consistent training throughout the term.

Their athletic journey began earlier in the year through regular PE lessons and our weekly Sport Aspire programme – designed to encourage commitment, resilience and personal bests across all disciplines. Their progress was a testament to what can be achieved when talent is nurtured with support and opportunity.

Against fierce national competition, both pupils delivered strong performances. One achieved a personal best time of 30.95 seconds in the U12 200m, breaking a Hatherop school record that had stood since 2018. The other, running in the U13 100m, delivered an impressive 14.25 seconds – just shy of a personal best but a performance that truly held its own on a national stage.

To be ranked among the top 16 sprinters in their age categories across the country is an incredible accomplishment. These Championships have seen the early steps of many future stars of British athletics – and our pupils now proudly join that tradition.

This experience will no doubt serve as a stepping stone for even greater athletic achievements, both next year and beyond. We are incredibly proud of their commitment, drive and sportsmanship.

Well done to both competitors for representing the school and their region with such distinction!
