Historic Warwick Castle School Trip
Prep 5 pupils from Hatherop Castle School enjoyed an unforgettable educational visit to Warwick Castle, where history came to life through a day of immersive learning, adventure and discovery.
As part of their current studies, the children stepped back into the medieval world to explore how castles were built, defended and used throughout history. One of the highlights of the day was the Battle and Sword Workshop, where pupils took part in hands-on military training. They learned how medieval soldiers marched, followed commands and worked together in formation, helping them understand the teamwork and discipline needed to defend a castle.

Another memorable experience was watching The Falconer’s Quest, where the children were introduced to Hobby, a young falconer with a passion for birds of prey. Pupils were captivated as they watched the magnificent birds soar through the sky, dive at speed and respond to commands with incredible precision.
Prep 5 also witnessed the impressive Trebuchet Show, seeing a giant medieval siege machine in action. This exciting demonstration helped pupils visualise the power and engineering used in castle warfare during times of siege.

The trip also tested pupils’ resilience and determination as they climbed to the top of the castle’s tallest tower. Their efforts were rewarded with breathtaking views across the surrounding countryside and a real sense of achievement. While exploring the castle walls and towers, the children identified important defensive features including battlements, arrow slits and strategic lookout points.
To end the day, pupils enjoyed some well-earned time in the beautiful castle grounds, reflecting on an inspiring day of learning outside the classroom.
The Warwick Castle trip was a fantastic opportunity for Prep 5 to deepen their understanding of medieval history in a fun and engaging setting. They returned to Hatherop Castle School full of enthusiasm, knowledge and stories to share.
