A Happy Start to the Year in Nursery

September has brought happy faces, new friendships and plenty of adventures as we welcomed our children back after the summer, alongside some lovely new faces joining our Nursery family. We have been incredibly proud of how happily and confidently everyone has settled into the new term.

Our All About Me topic has been the perfect way to begin the year, giving the children opportunities to get to know one another, celebrate what makes each of us unique and discover all the things we have in common.

In Pre-Reception, this has even extended into our mathematical thinking, as the children searched for friends who “matched” them. Of course, one particularly important question needed answering: “Do you have flashing shoes?”

Our morning Name Game has also become an important part of the daily routine. Each child finds their own name and places it into our special jar when they arrive, helping to develop independence, name recognition and those all-important early literacy skills.

Creativity has been flowing too. Our budding artists have created wonderfully individual self-portraits, beginning with a photograph of their face before painting and decorating the rest of themselves. Colourful clothes, hats, glasses and even the occasional moustache have made each portrait completely unique!

Our new family photo books have proved another lovely addition to Nursery life. Filled with photographs of special people and much-loved pets, they have sparked wonderful conversations and provided a comforting connection between home and school.

There has been plenty of activity beyond the classroom too. Mr Bailey has introduced the children to rugby, with our Toddlers becoming familiar with rugby balls, although not always in the traditional way, while Pre-Reception have been developing their throwing skills and learning how to score tries.

Music has filled Nursery with the return of Boogie Babies, as Miss Scott leads the children through songs, dancing and movement. Mrs Vaughn has also introduced rhythm sticks, encouraging the children to listen carefully and explore different sounds, beats and actions.

Meanwhile, Pre-Reception have taken their first steps into French with Madame Christie and her bears, Annic A, enjoying the excitement of discovering a new language together.

We even made the most of the September sunshine with a trip to the village park, where the children enjoyed exploring, playing and spending time together in our local community.

It has been wonderful to watch the children embrace Nursery life, exploring their classrooms, reconnecting with familiar friends, making new ones and enthusiastically getting involved in everything on offer.

There have been songs sung, portraits painted, rugby balls thrown, French words spoken, families shared, park adventures enjoyed and, importantly, flashing shoes compared.

It has been a busy, joyful and adventure-filled start to the year, and we cannot wait to see what October brings.
