Choose the Adventure of Childhood

Hatherop Castle Prep School & Nursery

Welcome to Hatherop Castle School, a happy and exceptionally high-achieving day and boarding school where children from 2 to 13 years old can enjoy the Adventure of Childhood. The glorious Cotswold setting, the outstanding education, and the broad and inspiring opportunities enjoyed by Hatherop Castle pupils, create a learning adventure all children can enjoy.

Set amongst 22 acres of beautiful landscaped grounds in Gloucestershire, Hatherop Castle provides a real life fairy tale experience for children. Our aspiration is that each child will have their own unique adventure within the castle and grounds. It is a magical place in which to spend a childhood, and here our children are challenged and supported to explore the world and their surroundings, try new things, take risks, grow in ability and confidence and fulfil their potential, whether that be in the classroom, on the sports fields or in art, music and drama.

Our excellent academic results, which ensure all pupils gain their first choice of Senior School, tell their own story. But this is just one outcome of an education at Hatherop Castle, and it is the rest of the experience that makes us stand out from the crowd.

Boarding

How many children can say they’ve lived in a castle?

Boarding plays a key role in developing the school’s strong sense of family values, encouraging children to live and work together harmoniously, build friendships and develop their independence. All the children flourish in comfortable surroundings where they are offered the attention, care and guidance they need.

Just 90 minutes from London

Are you thinking of combining the London lifestyle with the joys of boarding in the countryside? Hatherop Castle’s Cotswold Flyer service could be the solution. We provide a free escorted travel for our weekly boarding and full boarding pupils on exeat weekends and half-terms. The service runs between London Paddington and the glorious Cotswolds. Pupils can also join and leave the service at all points, including Hanborough, Oxford & Slough.

On Sunday evenings, after a weekend at home, children are met by a member of staff at Paddington Station and board the train to head west. With friends to chat to, books to read and games to play, the time flies and in just over an hour, they arrive at the pretty rural station at Charlbury. Here they are picked up by the school bus and driven through beautiful Cotswold countryside to the castle.
