Half Term Reflection from Mr Reed
As we reach the midpoint of this busy and vibrant term at Hatherop, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the breadth of learning, creativity and opportunity experienced across our school community.
At the start of term, our focus centred on the theme “A little goes a long way” — a simple idea with a powerful message. Pupils have been encouraged to recognise how small actions can make a meaningful difference: a moment of kindness, a helpful gesture, practising a skill for just a few minutes each day, or taking extra care with a piece of work. These small, consistent steps help shape both the individual and the community around them, and it has been inspiring to see how wholeheartedly the children have embraced this ethos.

Over the past five weeks, pupils’ curiosity and enthusiasm have taken them on global journeys through their learning. From the icy landscapes of Antarctica in Reception to the vibrant cultures of Mexico in Year 2, and onwards through Asia in Prep 4 and Australia in Prep 3, classrooms have been alive with discovery. Alongside this rich curriculum, pupils have stretched their thinking through mathematical challenges, demonstrated impressive ingenuity in LEGO robotics competitions, and celebrated notable success in Prep 8, with several pupils already earning scholarships to Cheltenham College, Malvern College and Tudor Hall.
Life beyond the classroom continues to be equally full and rewarding. Many pupils from Years 3–8 have enjoyed spending time within our thriving boarding community through themed evenings and weekend activities. These experiences strengthen friendships, build independence and add another joyful dimension to life at Hatherop. As we move into the second half of term, we look forward to more special moments, including upcoming boarding evenings and much-loved traditions that bring pupils together.

There is also much excitement ahead. Rehearsals are well under way for Annie the Musical, with Year 6 and 7 pupils preparing for what promises to be a memorable performance. The ever-popular House Singing Competition is on the horizon, alongside a rich calendar of sports fixtures, concerts and educational trips. We are also delighted to be welcoming world-renowned mountaineer Kenton Cool to Hatherop, who will share insights into his extraordinary expeditions and preparations for future Everest summits.
As always, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our parent community for your continued support. Your presence at assemblies, performances and on the side-lines, often in unpredictable weather, means a great deal to both pupils and staff. Your encouragement plays a vital role in the confidence and happiness of the children.
This half term has been a powerful reminder of what makes Hatherop Castle School so special: a nurturing community, a spirit of adventure, and a shared commitment to helping every child flourish. We look forward with excitement to all that the remainder of the term will bring.
