International Boarders
Twice each year, Hatherop Castle welcomes a small group of international children from Prep 3 to Prep 8 to experience life at one of the UK’s leading prep schools through our International Immersion Programme.
Designed for children who want to improve their English while experiencing authentic British school life, our two-week programmes provide complete immersion in both the classroom and boarding community. Pupils quickly become part of everyday life at Hatherop, learning alongside their peers, joining in with lessons, taking part in co-curricular activities and making friendships that often continue long after they return home.
Our February programme, held during the Chinese New Year holiday period, is designed primarily for families from Asia. Our June programme welcomes children from across Europe, particularly France, Spain and Italy. Both programmes offer a unique opportunity to develop spoken English naturally through everyday conversation, while experiencing the warmth, confidence and sense of belonging that define life at Hatherop.
Children stay in our welcoming family-run boarding house with Mr and Mrs Usher, whose experience and care help every child feel settled from the moment they arrive. Sharing comfortable dormitories with other pupils encourages friendships, independence and confidence, while providing countless opportunities to practise English in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Every day is filled with opportunity. Alongside a full academic timetable, children enjoy Hatherop’s wide range of clubs, sports and creative activities before returning to the boarding house to spend time with friends. Weekends are equally memorable, with carefully planned excursions introducing pupils to Britain’s rich history, culture and countryside. From exploring historic cities and famous landmarks to enjoying outdoor adventures and popular attractions, every trip is designed to create lasting memories while continuing the immersive English experience.
Our International Immersion Programme is much more than an English language course. It is an opportunity for children to experience life in a British prep school, build confidence, develop independence and create lifelong friendships in a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment.
