Reception – Prep 2

From the moment children join The Stable Yard, children are encouraged to take part in a wide rage of extra-curricular activity clubs. Below is a selection of what is offered to our children.

Ballet (also available to Nursery children)

These lessons are taught by a qualified instructor from Cirencester Dance Academy. The children learn the technical specifications from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing for Pre-Primary and Primary and will start to learn standards 1-4. They use their imagination and stories to help them remember set routines and exercises. Ballet is the base of all dance and encourages discipline, good posture and strength whilst enjoying the freedom of movement and dance.

Karate

Karate Club teaches the children the core skills in Karate, children can work through the programme to achieve a variety of belt colours and focus on 6 key areas: Focus, discipline, effort, respect, confidence, and technique. This is a very popular club throughout the school.

Tennis

This lunchtime club introduces the six basic strokes of tennis. They consist of: the serve, forehand groundstroke, backhand groundstroke, forehand volley, backhand volley, and the overhead smash. The 6 basic “strokes” are the fundamental movements a player performs to hit a tennis ball.

Fencing

Fencing is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. In the age of chivalry, duelling was favoured as a method of settling matters of honour, because of its grace & simplicity. These remain the most attractive aspects of the sport today. It’s very rewarding; developing all round fitness, flexibility of movement, stamina, mental agility, co-ordination, balance & self-confidence. Above all, it’s great fun learning to duel using swords!!

Gymnastics

A new and exciting activity, giving the children the opportunity to develop and showcase their talents in a range of different movements.

Pen Pals

Pen Pals is a small charity run solely by volunteers who are dedicated to making seriously ill children and their siblings smile through the sending of cards, letters, little gifts, support and friendship. The children will be given the opportunity to write letters and create small gifts for seriously ill children.

Prep School Activities

Musical Theatre

A fun filled club learning skills in singing, dance and drama in the style of West End Musical Theatre. The classes are open to all abilities and a wonderful way to build confidence and learn new skills.

Fencing

Arts Award

Arts Award is a national qualification which supports young people to develop as artists. The Bronze award is aimed at children from 11 years. If you are ready to try new experiences in the arts and media, doing a bronze Arts Award is perfect for you.

Tennis

Various skills are taught to allow the children to practise and consolidate techniques from previous weeks as well as having the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the game. This is all done in a fun and enthusiastic manner. Weekly games, matches and specific coaching take place to allow the children to progress with their game.

Debating

A great opportunity for the children to enhance their ability to voice their opinions and develop their understanding of a wide range of topics.

Yoga

Keep fit with yoga. Yoga teaches you good balance, control of your body, Improves breathing, makes you more flexible and gives you energy. Test yourself to see how many positions you can do and how flexible you are. Come and learn the basic positions that can be useful tools for life.

Lego

A great chance to enjoy creating and making a range of different concepts through Lego robotics and Lego pieces. This activity encourages children to learn while having fun! Creativity, problem solving, and teamwork are some of the skills that “playing” with LEGOS can teach children

Speech and Drama

Speech and Drama evening performances happen in March. Cheltenham Festival competition is in May. There are Drama scholarship classes and all lessons are structured to build confidence, develop performance potential and have fun.

STEM

An exciting opportunity for the children to get exposure to many different areas of the Arts, Science, Engineering and Mechanics. This will include being given access to different tools from designing to making objects and fun designs.

Arts & Crafts

An opportunity for the children to enjoy creating and making different objects, buildings and paintings using a variety of different tools and artistic techniques.

Gymnastics

A new and exciting activity, giving the children the opportunity to develop and showcase their talents in a range of different movements.

Multi Sport

An activity which will consist of a range of different sports. The perfect opportunity for the children to get exposure to different sports and fun activities.

Origami

Origami is an opportunity for children to learn the craft of origami. Children will learn and teach others how to fold origami and share this unique art form. They will also discover a new or already enjoyed leisure activity that can also improve spatial learning.

Gecko Cricket

The popular cricket club is a great opportunity for the children to practice in preparation for the Summer term. They will have plenty of opportunities to develop their skills, game understanding and tactical knowledge.
