The Wishford Weekend 2017

Last weekend, Hatherop Castle welcomed 4 other Wishford schools for the annual Wishford Weekend; Heywood Prep, St David’s, West Wickham, St Edward’s, Reading and St Faiths at Ash. In all there were 101 children who camped out on the back field, in a total of 34 tents!

The weather was on our side and the weekend started with a presentation from Jordan Daykin, the Dragon’s Den star, who gave out the awards for the inaugural Wishford Enterprise project. Children from all of the schools took part and were excited to hear that a team from St Edward’s, Reading won the prize. After a delicious BBQ on the back lawn, the children gathered around the campfire for a great sing song with hot chocolate and marshmallows.

After a night under canvas – a first for some of the children! – Saturday brought the excitement of the Wishford Quadkids event. The children from all the schools were mixed into teams named after famous British Olympians and took part in a variety of track and field events. Children from the ‘Adams’ team, named after the British boxer, Nicola Adams, won the overall prize.

The afternoon brought more fun and games, with the summer fete taking place as well as a number of other activities for the Wishford schools children. Trampolining, traversing wall challenges and graffiti art were just some of the choices as the children enjoyed all that the school had to offer. After the excitement of the fete, a film was the order of the day to cool off and relax in the Performing Arts Centre.

In the evening, the disco moved outside to take advantage of the fabulous evening sunshine. Children danced and played on the back lawn to all of their favourite tunes. After another good sleep, the children enjoyed a big breakfast before departing on their journey home, with happy memories and new friends. It was a great Wishford Weekend – the current Prep 5 are already talking about doing it next year!
