The exciting adventures happening in Transition
Children join Transition in the September following their third birthday and remain in this class until the following September, when they move up to Reception which is situated in the Stable Yard with the Pre-Prep classes. This time in Transition allows them to form early bonds and feel fully prepared for the move into The Stable yard.
Michaelmas Term is an exciting time for the children in Transition, not only are they excited to see their friends again, there is the added excitement of a new classroom, playground and key worker. Our aim during this first half of term is to get to know the children, which is done through a topic of, “all about me.” The children are encouraged to bring in photos of their family and to talk about them which encourages both language development and confidence.
Transition is also when children are introduced to a range of new opportunities, one of which being French. Children are always very excited to meet Madame Thomas and begin to learn the basic concepts of a number of core words and phrases. As in Kindergarten, lessons continue with our Director of Sport, Mr Bailey and Director of Music, Mr Page. The adventure of childhood is also very important in Nursery and children go to our on site Forest School at least once a week, whatever the weather. Children also begin to work on structured topic based learning in Transition and their upcoming topic is, “up in the air” which is adapted to various celebrations such as fireworks and Christmas.
Life really is wonderful in the Nursery.
