Well being at Hatherop

At Hatherop, we recognise the vital importance of supporting our children’s emotional needs in order for them to learn at their optimum and enjoy school life to the fullest.

The well being of our pupils is as important to us at Hatherop as the children’s academic success. Alongside our rigorous PSHE curriculum we offer the ELSA support programme.

Hatherop provides specialist support teachers who are trained to apply psychological knowledge of children’s social and emotional development to particular areas of need. These may be single or multiple needs and range from social and friendship skills to self-esteem and emotional awareness.

Children are also encouraged to use reflection journals, where they can self-reflect on events that have happened and learn from past experiences.  We also have weekly Hatherop Haven drop in sessions on Wednesdays with a qualified member of staff.  This provides the children with a quiet space to talk about anything that may be worrying them.

Mindfulness club on a Tuesday afternoon is always a great way to unwind from a busy day. Here we practise everything from meditation to breathing exercises and mandala colouring. It provides children with valuable reflection time to talk about their day with other children who wish to do the same. As we all know a problem shared is a problem halved.
