U8 and U9 Swimming gala vs Cricklade Manor and Heywood Prep

On Monday 4th June, 12 P3 and 4 girls and boys took part in a swimming gala against Cricklade Manor and Heywood Prep. For many, this was their first experience of a swimming gala and some of the children were nervous but very excited. All of the team swam well and we had some impressive wins from many of the team. This included fantastic performances from two Prep 4 children in the butterfly races. We were confident that Hatherop had done well and the final results confirmed this. Hatherop were the overall winners, scoring 122 points with Cricklade Manor coming second with 103 points, followed by Heywood with 99 points. Very well done to all those children who swam.

ISA National Athletics Finals @ Exeter Stadium

Congratulations to all of the children who travelled down to Exeter to compete in the South West trials. I was delighted with the achievements and the sheer energy and enthusiasm of them all.

Congratulations to one of our Prep 6 children who won Gold in the U11 Girls High & 80m Sprint. A Prep 7 child won Gold in the U11 Boys 150m Sprint & a Prep 5 won Gold in the U9 Boys Ball Throw. All 3 children will compete in the ISA National Finals at The Birmingham Alexander Stadium on Tuesday 19th June. We wish them well. Further confirmation needed for those children involved in either the 4 x 50m or 4 x 100m relays.

Under 9 As vs Berkhampstead

The boys were in high spirits for our first coach journey of the term. The match started well with excellent bowling from all players, limiting Berkhampstead to a poultry 76 runs from their 16 overs.

We sensed this was our opportunity to bat our way to victory and we made a strong start. As the innings wore on, Berky tightened up their bowling and we found runs tricky to come by and unfortunately just came up short. Another solid performance from a developing team.

Colts A Cricket v Cricklade

The Colts A won the toss and went into the field. They bowled fantastically well against a strong Cricklade side. Many wickets were taken, a wonderful caught and bowled and a brilliant run out by a Prep 5 child. With 120 to chase for a win anything was possible, but tight Cricklade bowling proved too much for us and no batsman managed to dig in for a match winning innings. We fell short by 30 runs in the end. A wonderful effort and a great afternoon but sadly not Hatherop’s day.

U10 and U11B rounders vs St Francis

After a long journey to St Francis School near Pewsey, the U10 and U11B teams played back to back matches against two strong teams.

The U10 girls started well and scored some good rounders and then fielded quite well, keeping the scores very close at half time at 4 1/2 to their 7. We missed a few opportunities to score in the second innings and could only match St Francis’s score at the end of our innings. Despite some strong fielding, the girls could not stop the St Francis team scoring again so we eventually lost 9½ – 7.

The U11B team worked hard throughout the game. They fielded well and prevented St Francis scoring from their hits so went into bat with only 2 rounders to beat. Our girls took advantage of some fielding errors from St Francis and quickly passed this score. We were only able to manage a single innings so we won the match 9-2. Well done to all the girls who played.
