Speech Day at Hatherop Castle

Speech Day and Prize Giving is a time of celebration, a time to reflect on the successes of the academic year, a time to look forward and most importantly a time when the Hatherop family can come together one last time before the summer holidays.

We were delighted and honoured to have welcomed Claire Lomas MBE as our guest of honour. Claire is an inspirational lady who has overcome adversity following a riding accident in 2007 which has left her paralysed from the chest down. As well as presenting prizes to the children, Claire also spoke to the children and adults and her message was straightforward. To believe that anything is possible, if you put your mind to it. The impossible can become possible with the right mindset, attitude and determination. Claire spoke passionately about the challenges (London Marathon, handcycling and riding a motorbike) she has completed raising an incredible sum of over £600,000 for spinal research charities. The children enjoyed asking Claire questions about her accident, how she copes with disability and the challenges she has accomplished.

The leavers service was a poignant occasion with our Prep 8 leavers leading the service and sharing their memories. This was followed by a delicious BBQ supper on the back lawn prepared by our excellent catering team. To round the day off our leavers were able to let off some steam by slipping and sliding down the water slide in their uniform!

With the holidays upon us, we can reflect back on a happy, successful and rewarding academic year finished in style with a wonderful Speech Day – one to remember.
