Prep 3 travel down under

This Thursday, 26th January, it was a national Australia Day, which Prep 3 celebrated in Australian style! It was a Wow Day packed with exciting, fun, creative and informative activities.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the storytelling and drama from our visitors and had an opportunity to listen to ‘The dreaming stories’ and also acted them out using aboriginal props. They were also given the opportunity to listen to the noises of different Australian animals and creatures. The most fascinating sounds are made by kookaburras, the Australian Kingfishers, famous for making the sound of a laugh. We all enjoyed having a good giggle pretending to be the fascinating birds and playing indigenous instruments, such as Yidaki and Digeridoo. Some of us managed to use the “lip technique” correctly to make lots of noise!

Then the children learnt the techniques of the aboriginal art – the oldest living culture in the world. Aboriginal art is based on story telling. They used the symbols instead of written language. We used the dotted technique to produce beautiful and effective pieces of art. What an amazing day of adventures and exploration for Prep 3!
