What a Marvellous Morning of Magic!
Hatherop Castle was the perfect setting for our Magic Open Morning, on arrival in the front hall, we stepped into the new ‘Hatherop Castle Storybook’ complete with its multi-coloured-flamed fire. Visitors
and current pupils and parents were wowed by Andy Cole a close-up magician who made coins, cards, money and wallets disappear before our very eyes and bent forks just by looking at them! From there, the magic continued into the café with edible flower pots, chocolate playing cards and other treats for the eyes and taste buds.
The children enjoyed a huge variety of magical activities throughout the day, from the magic of story-
telling with our visiting storyteller accompanied by her harp to learning magic tricks from Colin Diamond, another visiting magician. The magic of film was brought to life by one of our parents, Mr Chamberlain, who, along with his green screen technology created a magical film during his sessions which was showcased to visitors, staff and pupils at the end of the morning.
The magic of the theatre was also used with the children learning how to operate the new sound and light equipment in the Performing Arts Centre with other groups adding a touch of magic to drama performances on the stage.
Magical maths was covered throughout the school with children in Pre Prep magically stepping through sheets of paper and using their number skills to create and perfect a mind-reading dice trick. The older children had great fun exploring magical calculations, magic numbers and magic squares.
Throughout the morning, strange and magical smells and noises could be heard from the food technology room and the science block as the children baked magical cakes which separated into 3 layers, explored the magic of sound waves with dancing goo, caught fire (!), made rainbow fizz elephants tooth paste and magical fire extinguishers for candles…great excitement all around!
The morning culminated in a magic show for all in the Performing Arts Centre and a chance to see the green-screen video created by the children during the morning, which can also be seen by clicking this link.
This wonderful morning truly showed off the magic of life at Hatherop Castle, come along and see more for yourself!
