Hatherop Castle hosts another brilliant Wishford Weekend

Hatherop Castle played host to another fun and successful Wishford weekend, which saw Prep 6 visitors from Heywood Prep, St David’s, St Edward’s, Cricklade Manor, The Mead School and St Faiths. In all there were 143 children on site and who also camped out (a total of 25+ tents!) within our beautiful grounds.

Day 1 – Friday:

The children arrived throughout the afternoon on Friday and the campsite building quickly ensued, however with the impending “dance off” evening looming, the children cheerfully put their tents up with a real spring in their step and with lots of singing!

That evening, the dance off evening commenced and each school had to prepare a dance to the popular Pharrell Williams song – “Happy” This was certainly a lovely sunny evening, with all children enjoying a dance off on the back lawn. Each school provided a judge to ensure fairness and the verdict was (by one point) that Hatherop Castle were the winners!

The evening rounded off with a Hatherop tradition, a good old sing song around the camp fire, with a mug of hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Day 2 – Saturday:

Day 2 was the busiest day of the weekend, and after a good hearty breakfast the children warmed up for their Wishford Sports Morning. Once the children changed into their PE kit they got into their world cup related teams. All of the children completed in a variety of sports activities in rotation. The children then formed WISHFORD on the backlawn as a team building challenge.

Lunch was prepared by Hatherop’s super chef Mr Cole and the children enjoyed their paninis and baguettes in the Italian Garden.

The Hatherop PA team organised the most fantastic school fete that saw around 15 stalls on site, a bouncy castle, a jazz band, a yummy cake stand, the multiple tombola’s and not to forget, the famous dog show!. Current pupils and their parents joined the Wishford weekend children enjoying a true Hatherop afternoon. Even the weather behaved and we got through the afternoon in the dry, although the brave teachers who were splatted by wet sponges did get a little wet!

The Wishford weekend children enjoyed some rest and relaxation after the summer fete ended watching The Greatest Showman.

After a superb BBQ supper of burgers, sausages and salad the children were able to put their dancing shoes on again and dance into the night with a Disco led by our two Aussie gaps.

Day 3 – Sunday:

Needless to say, the wake up on Sunday morning was a quiet affair with the children very tired from the weekend’s activities. A yummy breakfast was provided and the children then had to take down their tents and ensure their campsite was left spick and span. The children departed at 10.30am, collected by parents who were excited to hear how the weekend had panned out. Hatherop Castle was thrilled to host another Wishford weekend and were very happy to hear that all of the children had a super time.

Headmaster Nigel Reed commented “Hatherop Castle was delighted to host the Wishford weekend again. It was lovely seeing the children make new friends enjoying the beautiful ground and most important having a lot of fun. It was a huge success.”
