Curiosity is the essence of our existence

Over the term, P6B have been researching, calculating, making, painting and staking out their own scale model solar system. Using two different scales, the children used excel to calculate the distances and diameters involved.

They then mixed concrete and filled a basketball, football and tennis balls.  Leaving them to set for a week, the children then painted their planets in a variety of different styles, from abstract to realistic.

Along side a fact sheet, the planets are now spread out across the whole of Hatherop, from the front entrance gate to the top corner of the sports field.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their project and invite you could take the time to look at each planet and appreciate the vast scale of our solar system.
