A weekend of unmissable boarding!
Boarders Weekend
On a beautiful sunny day, the boarders had the privilege of visiting Heythrop Zoological Gardens which is only open once a year to see some amazing animals. These animals are not only beautiful in their own right but also because they are trained and feature in films and adverts. We watched how they are gently trained to respond to food rewards for a green screen. Then went on to the petting zoo and finished with a show, Cinderella, in which some of the boarders were chosen to participate! Great fun. Finally, a few children had a ride on a camel. We were all impressed by the respect and care shown for the animals and were overawed by the whole experience.
The following day the boarders faced a day of sporting and athletic challenges! The first event of the day was Adventure Golf. The correct combination of accuracy and power was needed to score well on the holes and, although it took a bit of time for everyone to get the hang of it, we soon saw some holes-in-one! There was a particular impressive one from Sophia on the last hole where the ball flew straight into the hole without touching the ground. Following a few games of pool and air hockey, the pupils refuelled with a packed lunch at Lydiard Park. There was then time to develop those climbing skills at the adventure playground. With everyone still ready for more, we moved on to tenpin bowling. Mr Oakden reigned supreme but there were some great shots played and even a few strikes. In returning to school, the pupils could take the chance to chill out and wait for a wonderful Sunday roast.
