“A good swordsman is more important than a good sword”, or so Prep 8 discovered on a visit to Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, to support their C.E. syllabus on Medieval England.
Outdoor education and hands-on history is at the forefront of Hatherop’s educational ethos and the importance of these kinds of visits cannot be overstated! They walked the battlefield learning about archaeology and the discoveries that recently placed the site of battle over a mile away from where they had previously believed it to be. Mastering the technique of a knight and understanding how peasants were treated were highlights of the day, as the children really got stuck into their battle formations. The children were a credit to the school and had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
