Hatherop Castle is a thriving school in the Cotswold countryside, just an hour and a half from London Heathrow Airport. The glorious setting, outstanding education, and broad opportunities on offer all contribute to the ‘Adventure of Childhood’ experience that is key to Hatherop’s ethos.
Our Hong Kong students enjoy the warm and welcoming boarding environment, our exciting range of extra-curricular activities, and the varied educational curriculum that challenges and inspires them. With excellent outcomes, our pupils go on to a range of the UK’s best independent senior schools.
BOARDING AT HATHEROP CASTLE – A FAMILY ORIENTED ETHOS
How many children can say they live in an historic English castle? For our international students, that’s part of the magic that makes Hatherop so special. But it’s not the only thing! From the moment international students arrive to our boarding house, they’re welcomed by our friendly and caring house parents, Mr and Mrs Nish, who are very experienced supporting overseas students.
During the school day Mr Nish is Head of Maths and teaches Games, whilst Mrs Nish is a Prep 3 teacher.
“We are keen to share the family orientated ethos that we believe should be at the heart of the boarding house, where we put the child’s individual needs first.” – Jamie Nish
International students soon settle in and make friends. Sharing cheerfully decorated dormitories with other children helps them to form bonds quickly and ensures that, from the moment they arrive, they are using and improving their English. We are pleased to have boarders from a diverse range of nationalities and cultures, so they can enjoy socialising with and learning from each other.
WEEKENDS AT HATHEROP CASTLE – PACKED WITH FUN
Weekends are always busy with a huge range of trips and activities, including visits to key cultural and historic British sights, such as medieval castles, museums and Roman Baths, as well as trips to theme parks and out into the English countryside. We offer an exciting variety of after-school clubs, where students can try their hands at such activities as Lego Robotics, cookery, Scottish country dancing and typical English sports.
AFTER HATHEROP CASTLE – SENIOR SCHOOL PROGRESSION
By the time they leave us, our international boarders are familiar with and confident in life in the United Kingdom, and are happy to move on to one of the many outstanding boarding senior schools Hatherop Castle pupils join. These include prestigious schools such as Eton College, Wycombe Abbey, Marlborough College, Westonbirt School, Cheltenham College and Radley College.
We know that choosing a senior school for your child is an important decision and it’s one we at Hatherop take very seriously. Different schools suit different children depending on their strengths and personality. At Hatherop, we know our pupils very well, and we work closely with parents to advise on which senior schools are right for their child.
Our carefully tailored Common Entrance programme ensures that all children leaving us at age 13 go to their first choice of senior school, often with scholarships and awards. While the majority of our pupils leave at age 13, we do also prepare and support children who leave us to join senior schools at 11 years old.
