Waterproofs at the ready!

Prep 1 Forest School

Over the Michaelmas term, Prep 1 children have attended Forest School sessions. Every week we have been donning our wellies and waterproofs and heading out to the forest for some outdoor learning.

Most of our sessions are linked to our Science topic on our Five Senses, and we so enjoyed playing games using our ‘Deer Ears’ and ‘Eagle Eyes’! We have also spent time listening to the sounds around us in order to make a sound map, using sticks and leaves.

Towards Christmas, we used our forest time to work on the poem ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’ by Robert Frost. We used whatever we could find in the woods to make a snowy picture based on this poem.

The children always enjoy Forest School, and the opportunities it provides to learn in a different setting and to practise team work and problem solving skills. We especially enjoyed toasting marshmallows over the fire in our final session and drinking hot chocolate at snack time!
