Antarctica, St Lucia… Where next?

In Geography this term Prep 5 have been learning about tourism. They started by having fun looking at the different places they have all been on holiday and the various reasons why we go on holiday.

They then started to consider more seriously the positive and negative impact that tourism can have on the country being visited. This was particularly well illustrated when they considered the rise in tourism to Antarctica and led to a fiercely challenged debate on whether tourism should be encouraged in such fragile ecosystems.

They moved on to look at the impact of tourism on St Lucia, before finishing our topic thinking about our own National Parks and the potential conflict that can arise between locals and tourists in this country. Prep 5 have really enjoyed this topic and it has hopefully made them think more carefully about being respectful of both the people and the environment when visiting other places.
