SPORTS ETHOS AT HATHEROP CASTLE - "SPORT FOR ALL"
HELPING PUPILS TO ACHIEVE THE VERY BEST
To enable sportsmen and women to compete successfully, they need to be given a sound foundation and expert tuition. In order for each child to find the sport he or she does best, they should be provided with a full range of opportunities. For a child to do well in sport, they need to have talent, but they also require motivation, enjoyment and focus. All of this is encouraged from an early age at Hatherop Castle School.
ESSENTIAL FOR DEVELOPING LIFE SKILLS
Sport, plays a key role in developing life skills. Teamwork, communication, testing ourselves to the limit, maintaining concentration and stamina are all important. It is also essential to keep young bodies fit and healthy as they grow. The skills developed at an early age can provide each individual with the ability to stay fit and healthy throughout life.
FACILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL
Your child will be given an array of opportunities to pursue sport here at Hatherop Castle. We have a variety of sports for pupils of all abilities; and our facilities and the diverse skills of our highly trained staff enable us to offer many activities for the children. We hope your child finds at least one absorbing interest from which he or she can derive that sense of achievement so vital to the development of self-confidence.
PREPARATION FOR SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS TO SENIOR SCHOOL AT 13+
The School's Sports Scholarship programme aims to foster the development of the Scholar's athletic potential through a programme designed specifically for the individual to support and monitor preparation, progression and performance, during their time at Hatherop Castle and the led up to their assessment.
The programme is designed to increase knowledge and understanding in:
- Nutrition
- Postural assessment
- Injury prevention
- Skill acquisition
- Lifestyle management
- Performance and planning management
- Performance profile management
Each of these aspects is undertaken under the guidance of the Director of Sport. The Scholar is monitored and elements reviewed which include fitness, training, performance, contribution to School sport, athlete education progress, achievements and academic studies. Communication is central to the success of the Programme and the Scholar, parents, teachers and coaches are all invited to communicate with the Director of Sport so we may provide the best support for the athlete.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Games players are given encouragement by expert coaches and have the opportunity to compete in inter-school fixtures, tours and a competitive House System. Teams regularly represent the School at local, county and national level in a variety of subjects. However, be assured that we strive to find opportunities for every child to enjoy and succeed. For a relatively small school, we are very proud of our achievements in a wide variety of sports and activities.
