Design Technology

Pupils at Hatherop Castle look forward to their Design Technology lessons, particularly when they get the chance to carry out practical work in the workshop and use the variety of hand and electrical tools (depending on their age). All pupils receive DT lessons, where they are taught and encouraged to observe and consider the man-made environment around them. They are also taught the importance of the design process; what is the need for their designs, developing their own solutions to a design problem, constructing their chosen solution and evaluating every stage of their work; skills that they will find useful for project work and research across the curriculum.

Pupils undertake three different tasks each year across all areas of design technology and these include construction with resistant materials, graphic design, food technology, electronics, textiles and understanding of mechanisms, hydraulics and pneumatics, structures and forces, environmental issues and healthy eating.
